SHF 12106 A
Bit Pattern Generator

SHF 12016 A BPG with Remote Head

← Back to the BERT + AWG Overview

The new SHF 12106 A Bit Pattern Generator (BPG) functions as a standalone BPG, delivering independent yet synchronized high-speed NRZ signals with exceptional signal fidelity. Additionally, it is engineered to drive SHF remote heads. By choosing the appropriate remote head, the BPG’s capabilities can be significantly expanded to accommodate a wide range of current and future applications, as outlined below.

SHF 12106 A Applications

PAM4 up to 128 GBaud (256 Gbps)

PAM4 up to 64 GBaud (128 Gbps)

NRZ up to 128 Gbps

Multi-Channel 64 Gbps NRZ

Remote-Head Flexibility

All remote heads mentioned above are field-replaceable. This means that when switching from one application to another, only the remote head needs to be exchanged. The BPG, any auxiliary items such as a clock source, and the connection cables can remain the same.

The SHF 12106 A BPG and the remote head are not simply two separate modules connected together; they operate in tandem. The complementary software package, the SHF Control Center (SCC), integrates them into a virtually unified instrument.

Areas of Operation

  • Bit Error Rate Testing (together with the SHF 11104 A Error Analyzer)
  • Ethernet Research (100GbE, 200GbE, 400GbE, 800GbE & 1.6TbE)
  • Optical Carrier transmission experiments (OC-768 / STM-256, …)
  • Optimizing data center infrastructure (Fibre Channel ,…)
  • Development of computing component interconnects (USB4, PCIe 6.0, PCIe 7.0, …)
  • Coherent system development (with modulation formats such as (DP-)16QAM and (DP-)64QAM)
  • Advanced Modulation Experiments (PAM-N, OFDM, …)
  • Laser or Modulator development (MZM, EML, VCSEL, …)
  • Receiver sensitivity tests
  • DSP improvement
  • High speed SerDes or clock-data-recovery (CDR) characterization
  • Quantum Computing and quantum transmission
